Second Grade maintained their perfect early start to the season with a big win over Bushrangers at George Park.

Batting first, ORC posted a big total of 6 for 269, with few of the opposing bowlers escaping punishment. Adam Bromfield and Myles Emanuel started briskly, scoring at just under a run a ball for the first 8 overs, before Myles was dismissed for 14.

Ben Spence came in and hit 10 before he was caught behind. Captain Adrian Mielke joined Bromfield in the centre as they consolidated, sharing a partnership of 126 before Mielke was dismissed for 37, falling to a sharp caught and bowled.

Bromfield was the next wicket to fall, falling victim to another good caught and bowled, but not before he had plundered the bowling for a magnificent 119, including 18 boundaries.

Dave Judge replaced Bromfield, and with the intent of pushing runs, was soon dismissed for 1.

His replacement, Evan Jones started aggressively, helping Bromfield to push the runs, scoring a brisk 54, smacking 11 boundaries before he fell in the final over. Jeremy Judge gave excellent support to Jones with a well played 30 not out. ORC’s innings was wrapped up in the 40th over with the score at 6/269.

A target of 270 was always going to be a massive ask for a relatively inexperienced Bushrangers side.

Chris Hills and Jeremy Judge were immediately on the spot, bowling tightly, with both proving hard to get away. Hills only conceded 11 runs from 4 overs and Judge in particular was devastating in his 4 over spell, snaring the first 3 wickets to fall, finishing with figures of 3/16.

Angus Daymond with 2/5 (4), Dave Judge with 1/7 (2) and Evan Jones completing a good individual match with 4/11 (6) tore the Bushrangers tail to shreds, with the Bushies eventually dismissed for a total of 86 in the 26th over.

Well done to Brommy for starting the season with style – a great individual performance within a great all round team performance! Keep it up guys!
